It is not unusual for a safe-deposit box to be sealed at the time of death, making it very difficult for survivors. Instead keep them in a fireproof safe. An alternative place to store life insurance is in the freezer. Yes your policy is safe in cold storage. Mary Hunt suggests that "wrap them in plastic and put them in a sealed container in the freezer." They will be easily accessible and protected in case of fire.
